What it was
We started A Brighter Tomorrow as students at Jakarta Intercultural School to get sembako, or care packages, to families in the city who had been hit hardest by the shutdown.
How we funded it
By building and presenting pitches to local businesses. We secured six partnerships, including Dough Lab, Rebuild., Trim Eats, Mama's, and Baked_af, and in exchange we marketed their products to our audience. That mattered more than it sounds. A single donation ends. A partnership that is worth something to the business can be asked again.
My part
I helped build the pitches we took to businesses at the start, and as the project grew my role moved toward procurement and transport. I negotiated with suppliers to source the contents of the sembako at the best prices we could get, handled the payment logistics with them, and coordinated distribution across Jakarta.
What I took from it
The main purpose was relief for families in the city, but it is also where I learned to run a supply chain, hold a relationship with a partner who does not report to you, and make a case to somebody who has no particular reason to say yes.
